Empty My Cup

I love to go to training where I must "empty the cup" and learn something different or new. I met Valery Fedorenko, Marty Farrell, John Hoskins and trained with the American Kettlebell Club over the weekend. It was great meeting and training with motivated people. That has been a constant in the journey in kettlebell lifting. Much has been written about the RKC and AKC, none of which I will rehash here. That's old news and better time is spent training. I will say this, though. Kettlebells are a great tool for either use from my own experience and training people to become stronger. I am stronger and leaner from my using kettlebells. It is a phenomenal time to be a physical fitness instructor in the middle of this physical culture rennaisance.

Nice pics...but I'm waiting to hear about the new things you learned! Please share!
Also, I enjoyed the 9-11 video. I was teaching in Middletown, NJ at the time... we had a lot of kids with parents in NYC. You can see the skyline from there. I always get a bit choked up from those bagpipes playing "Amazing Grace" (my first police funeral was when I was 14).

KBL,

I learned the jerk and snatch with one on one tweaking from VF. It has been called GS, flexible style, and its goal is strength endurance with one hand switch.

I saw Marty Farrell who weighs around 150 perform 56 jerks with 140 lbs of two kettlebells-very impressive when you see it in person.

The class and coaching quality were impressive and had alot of expertise. VF did various demos, what was impressive was his demo of the snatch- 200 snatches in 10 mins. He could have kept going, it was a "simple" demo of technique and pacing.

A great cert!

It must have been very intense living so close to the WTC. I hope your students weren't personally affected by losing a loved one. Amazing Grace is simply a powerful tune. I totally understand how you feel about that.

I had a student that lost a brother and our school lost a former teacher that decided to go back into the business world. It was crazy in our building with parents flocking in to get students out and kids crying and trying to call people on thier cells (this was a high school). My hunsband and some of his co-workers went up thier during the following week to help. You could smell it the next day.

pardon my grammer...it's late.

Not a problem with the grammar. What a horrible day, and aftermath.

Way to go bro! you are seriously educating yourself...rock on man!

Thanks Franz! Now I need to get some academic certs like the CSCS under my belt!

Good times :)

why? I don't have a CSCS. Nor do I feel like I need one. My clients know who I am and know that I am always continuing to study, learn and grow.

Of course, if that is a goal of yours, you should do it! It couldn't help. But it doesn't make the trainer. The trainer makes the trainer :)

I mean "It couldn't hurt."

Since I primarily deal with governmental entities, they seem to only acknowledge letters. NSCA, ACSM, etc. etc. They are way behind the times, and are reluctant to be the forefront of anything.

It is very frustrating!
